LAS 2026 Call for proposals
The Linux App Summit (LAS) is designed to accelerate the growth of the Linux application ecosystem by bringing together everyone involved in creating a great Linux application user experience.
Keynote talks will be 60’, other presentations will be 40’. You can also hold a workshop (time slots TBD based on need). In any format, come and share your exciting content!
We are only accepting in-person presentations and all talks will be given in English.
DIGITAL SOVEREIGNTY
Digital sovereignty refers to the ability of individuals, communities, and organizations to retain control over their data, infrastructure, and digital tools through the use of free and open-source software. It promotes transparent, locally governed technology, from self-hosted cloud services to inclusive, offline-capable desktop and laptop applications, and reduces reliance on centralized proprietary platforms. LAS welcomes talks that explore digital sovereignty in theory or in practise, especially presentations that demonstrate how applications and open app ecosystems can help shape and strengthen the future of digital sovereignty.
AI AND MACHINE LEARNING
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are rapidly changing how applications are built and used, from fully AI-generated or “vibe-coded” apps to hybrid and traditionally developed software, as well as autonomous agents within open platforms. These trends raise important questions about sustainability, security, transparency, governance, and the overall health of the open-source ecosystem. LAS invites talks that critically examine the impact of AI and ML, explore how these technologies are influencing our app ecosystem, and share practical strategies for managing them responsibly while defining a clear path forward.
ECOSYSTEM GROWTH
The continued growth of Linux-based hardware and expanding app store offerings for the Linux platform indicates strong momentum for the Linux app ecosystem, with open source playing an increasingly critical role in modern technology. Sustaining this progress requires identifying new opportunities, strengthening long-term sustainability, and fostering meaningful user engagement. LAS invites talks that explore strategies for driving growth, resilience, and community-driven success across the ecosystem.
INNOVATION
Important technologies that many use daily, often without realizing it, have been developed within the Linux app ecosystem. Driving innovation in this space means pushing the boundaries of current offerings, expanding reach, and adopting new technologies that strengthen the ecosystem. LAS invites talks that showcase technological advancements, highlight emerging opportunities, and explore how to bring the Linux app ecosystem on par with similar ecosystems while reaching more users.
PEOPLE & COMMUNICATIONS
While the Linux app ecosystem has been largely shaped by open source communities, we believe there is space for everyone. Enabling businesses and communities to thrive together is essential for long-term sustainability, and it is important that people are able to make a living from the work they do for Linux users. LAS welcomes talks that explore how companies can find their place in the ecosystem, how communities can collaborate to build and support end-user applications, and how we can create sustainable paths that keep contributors engaged for the long term.
PLATFORM DIVERSITY
The Linux platform’s greatest strength is the diversity of its ecosystem, with a wide range of toolkits, frameworks, and programming languages available for different needs. Whether developing games, designing applications, or building web experiences, the Linux app ecosystem provides tools to make it possible. LAS invites talks that highlight technologies enabling cross-platform distribution, approaches that support platform diversity, and ideas for evolving the ecosystem to better reach and serve users.
